KABUL: Shaikh Abdul Rahman Munir, Deputy Minister for Counter-Narcotics of the Ministry of Interior Affairs, met with Dmitry Zhirnov, Russia’s Ambassador to Kabul, to discuss bilateral cooperation in combating narcotics.
Munir described drug trafficking as a global threat and stressed Afghanistan’s need for cooperation with international partners, particularly Russia, to address the issue, according to a statement from the ministry on Wednesday.
The Russian ambassador praised the Islamic Emirate’s counter-narcotics measures and expressed Moscow’s readiness to cooperate with Afghanistan in the ground.
The meeting follows a recent United Nations report stating that drug cultivation in Afghanistan has decreased by 95 percent since the ban imposed by the Islamic Emirate’s leadership.
